Taking Up Space: The Beginning

I’ve been thinking about this idea, the idea of taking up space for such a long time. I believe as women, we are taught to take up as little space as possible: cross your legs, raise your hand, don’t speak out of turn, etc., etc.
But when I found yoga, I found another way to be in the world. My radiant heart beat differently. Through my twists and turns, I learned to breathe deeply, to fill my lungs deeply, to expand and stretch in ways I never knew possible.
I learned I was of value, that I deserved to take up space. Not because of some special award, or the way I looked, or my job title.
No, it was something beyond touch. It was a place in my heart that began beating again. As women, we live in shame and shadow for so many reasons: weight, marital status, income, children…whatever!
So in this blog, I plan to explore what it means to take up space.
First, we have to understand space. What it is and why it’s important. And then we can learn how to expand and sing and dance and walk in our own authentic way.
Some ideas include: meditating, clean/healthy eating, walking, yoga, breathing, spirituality, writing, reading, laughing.
So let’s explore the variety of female life. Our journey may take us across the world to meet amazing women. It may take us to a yoga class or a meditation class. Are you breathing? Are you moving? What type of movement is best for you?
Oh, the possibilities! Writing, art, painting, dancing, walking, jogging, sleeping—we are not getting enough of that!
I’ll also review books that explore the topics of taking up space, both fiction and non-fiction…we can never get enough books.
I think the possibilities are endless…what a fun journey this will be!
