A Space for the Mundane

Today, I was thinking small.

And by that I mean finding that thing right in front of me, in my own life, that is wonderful and glorious, small and powerful.

Mundane.

So, I searched for the cloudless sky and was greeted with dancing sunshine above.

I searched for movement, so I stretched towards the song of the Chickadee.

I searched for texture, so I set my shoe in a bank of ice and snow and listened to the resounding crunch that followed.

I searched for love and saw it in the eyes of my child.

I’m thinking small because the world seems so very big right now. Big and out of control.

Fires.

Bombs.

Assassinations.

Earthquakes.

Big stuff.

Really big.

And I held my child tighter because of it.

And that moment of togetherness did something to me. I felt a shift from fear to connection. It was a tectonic shift of thought and feeling.

From thinking big to feeling the small and remembering the power of the mundane.

It was a tiny gesture and a moment, only.

But it changed me…forever.

The mundane is fierce.

It is powerful.

And, it brings healing.

Truly.

Call to Action: Find one thing in your own life that may seem mundane but brings you great peace and healing.

  1. Such a powerful space to be in – present in the mundane. Truly where most of the beauty of life exists. And it can be found with that shift in attention. I love that you share a glimpse of this with very tangible examples, Shelly. You give such care to detail and I love your enormous, kind, diligent, earnest heart. Take up as much space as you can with all the good you keep injecting into our world through your writer’s voice. Sharing this to my pages. Thank you for the inspiration! Write on! xo

    1. My dear sweet friend, thank you for those kind words. Writing is such a refuge, isn’t it? And I feel such comfort know that your healing spirit is in the world. So much love to you!
