Writing Space

I’m not talking the final frontier, space. For me, space is about presence, it’s about expanding and moving and growing in a way that is unique to me.

As women, we learn to take up very little space. Cross your legs, fold your arms, get smaller…get invisible.

So as I write about space, I realize its importance in our lives, in women’s lives, in the women in your life.

I’m interested in writing about space because it is a place that we should inhabit, fully. But if we’re asleep, if we’re numb, if we’re afraid, then we can’t fully experience that deep connection we have to the spaces in our lives.

And that space can be anything: subway, garden, mountain, maple tree…whatever it may be for you is great. The point is to see it, to feel it, to inhabit it.

Why this space?

What moves me about that concrete door?

What happens to me when I recognize the presence of place in my own life?

My journey has been a transformation from small to full. I am learning that I deserve to take up space in the world. I am allowed. It is a demand.

Breathe deeply and take up space in the world. Now.

Do not wait. Observe. Feel. See. Experience. Stretch—and I mean big. Once you become aware of that space you inhabit, there’s no turning back. You are fundamentally altered forever.

Ah…glorious change. It is time.

It is time!
