A Space for the Fence in the Trees

Almost hidden from view, I caught only a glimpse of it from the road; an old, weathered fence, aged and fading.

But it was there, taking up space in its own unique way.

Cracked and splintered, it shouted its age, worn down by time and wind and rain and snow.

Rustic.

And yet, it still stood, staked into the ground, someone lovingly digging holes for it and nailing its posts together.

Aging beautifully under the Colorado sun.

A bush had taken root next to this fence and had grown up and over the aged architecture. Like a big arm, this bush seemed to be a protection, a great support, curing over the wood, hiding it among nature.

The natural world meeting the human world.

The wood, slowly fading, cracking, bending back to  the earth from where it originated.

The tree stretching out and claiming its territory once more.

But for now, the fence remains; a bit of Colorado history, almost hidden, receding back in time and fading like a memory.

How grateful I am to have caught a glimpse of it from the road.
