A Space for Compassion

Could a greater miracle take place than for us to look through each other’s eyes for an instant? –Henry David Thoreau
I just completed a Masterclass through my Calm app with Tara Brach called “Radical Self-Compassion”. I highly recommend listening to it if you are a paid user. She also has a new book out with the same title that I also ordered.
It really was something because she spoke specifically about space throughout the entire class.
Space for healing. Space for ourselves. Space for compassion.
“Love ourselves into healing” and do the same for others. That’s a direct quote from Tara.
Pause. Breathe…Wow.
What does that mean, to love ourselves into healing? Stop and ponder that for a moment.
To look through each other’s eyes? Stop and ponder that for a moment.
When we do this thing of feeling compassion for the other…when we love another…that is where we find the space for compassion. In that very space. Right there!
Right in that very spot.
She goes on to tell a story about palliative care nurses who over and over had their patients telling them that their number one greatest regret was that they didn’t live true to themselves.
I didn’t live true to myself. I didn’t honor and love myself.
Pause…and…wow.
Tara explains that in order to live a true life, you must love yourself. And when you love yourself, you are then able to expand your space of love and compassion to others. And you are then able to look through another’s eyes for an instant.
How lovely. Truly.
