Roaring into the Space of Others

Hurricane Harvey, your images are haunting, as you stretch yourself…all fight and fury. Over and over again, you are reluctant to recede, reluctant to yield.
In your wake, I am reminded of the preciousness of space, of its intimacy, of its fragility.
Is it something that we take for granted? Do we believe it will always be there? Are we working to save space? Or are we letting it slip through our fingers and dribble away…?
I know the arguments for and against Climate Change. I am done with those words. Instead, I look to what is…happening. Friends, families, pets, earth, you need help.
You need it!
I have lived through flood and fire. In Colorado, we have experienced both. Not to the scale of Harvey, but still the destruction was fierce and strong.
So today, after embracing the sorrow and sadness of those images…today I choose action and healing. Today, I look to what can be done to save and help and alleviate. Enough with the fracturing language and hate speech!
Enough. Don’t you think? Yes…we are bigger than such things.
Instead, what can we do when we come together? Peppered between the haunting imagery are stories and pictures of greatness, of rising, of healing. Of stretching towards the sun, towards the light. Black, white, earth, animal, human…did you catch it?
Did you see those images?
Hurricane Harvey, you came roaring into so many spaces. And I ask, how will we respond to such a thing?
Call to action: Do something today that helps the victims of Hurricane Harvey.
