A Space for a Wonderful Life

I am reflecting on this New Year’s Day, 2019. It is cold; biting, frozen crystals on the window. Only one lonely degree greeted the morning. And it was a perfect moment.

Do you let your wonderful life come through, even in the cold?

I did this morning.

Candles flickering, music quietly meandering through the house, and my child playing with trucks and leaves in the kitchen…very loudly.

Glorious!

I was a wonderful moment, rich with meaning and memories. I am grateful that I let it in. I’m grateful that I didn’t let the cold stop me.

I wonder at the moments that we don’t let in. What do we miss as we seek illusive perfection?

I will be happy, when….

When what? When life gets easier or lighter or…?

Yes, planning and setting goals are a very good thing. But what if, instead of waiting for happiness until…what if we understood the wonderfulness of our life, right now?

Like George Bailey in It’s a Wonderful Life, what if we found our happiness before the money was found, before the sun emerged, before the storm stopped, before Mr. Potter was stopped?

It’s a tall order, but I’m choosing to live this way every day.

Every. Single. Day.

We will never reach that moment of perfection if we are constantly looking over our shoulder. Behind us is past and over the horizon is yet to come; and they are not where happiness is found.

No, after living life a bit, I realize that happiness is something that we choose before the biting cold stops and the snow melts. Happiness is seeing the beauty of the ice crystals.

I hope in 2019 that you can seek out the good that already is. Now.

Let’s do this together and join George Bailey in having a truly wonderful life!
