A Space of Uncertainty

A few days ago, I was out and driving early in the morning…really early.

The sun was not yet up, but you could see her promise. The day was still muted, and the edges of things were soft, rounded, and quiet. The air felt clean rushing into my car window.

Dawn still hung in the air.

As I drove, the road dipped down a bit, and in the distance, I could see the mist clinging to the ground. It billowed in great swaths, stretching itself over road and land; hovering in place and holding her ground.

And as I drove through it, all vision was momentarily gone, and I was swallowed in the glorious earthy-dew.

I was just a moment, a blink, a second in time….

And it caused me pause. All things known became uncertain in that fleeting moment.

How lovely.

How wonderful to let go into that space and trust something beyond our eyes. The rest of our senses heighten in moments like those. Smell and feel come roaring in.

That’s why I love these early mornings. Whether I’m driving, writing, meditating, or sipping coffee, mornings always restore. They bring me center and calm.

An early morning for me is my reset button.

They day ahead is uncertain, obscured by the mist of the unknown.

And yet…as I breathe and focus on what is good, on all the things in my life that I have to be grateful for, I am refreshed and ready.

And that is enough.
